Carseat problems in Murano?

I just got a new Nissan Murano. I had my son’s Peg Perego SIP reinstalled in it; they had such a hard time with the belt attachment, they ended up using the LATCH instead. As a result, when my 19lbs son is in it, its no longer safe. I called back and they told me that I would need to get a new carseat as mine won’t work with my car. I find this very hard to believe. Has anyone encountered this with their cars? I know my son is ready for his big-boy carseat in just a month or so, but I would rather keep him in his rear-facing carrier as long as possible; plus it will save me some money in the meantime! :)
Apparently it can be installed, but not safely because of the angle of the bench seat in the back. The little ball indicator is so far off its just not done right. I’m going to go back tomorrow to see, but I don’t want to buy a new carseat just because the installers don’t know what they’re talking about. Peg left me on hold forever and Nissan said I should call Peg. Ugh.

Umm LATCH is safer than using the seatbelt, that’s why it is now required for all cars to have LATCH.

The LATCH system allows you to securely attach your safety seat in your car without using the vehicle belt and possibly to get a better fit. For seating positions with LATCH anchors, experts recommend trying the LATCH installation first and only using the vehicle belt in that seating position if LATCH, for some reason, results in a looser fit. If you want to use the center rear seat and no LATCH anchors are available (check the vehicle owner’s manual), try the vehicle belt to be sure you can get a tight installation. If you cannot, try the LATCH anchors in a different seating position.
